‘BIG FAT WEDDING’: The first word that pops in our mind when we hear or think of any wedding. From celebrities to business tycoons, everyone spends a grand amount on the weddings to make it a extravagant affair. In the year 2018,Ranveer and Deepika’s grand wedding to Priyanka and Nick’s grand wedding and Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal’s wedding bash were the most trending stories that made everyone gaga. But do weddings have to be so expensive in order to be merorable? Wasn’t it a celebration of love between two souls.Among these stories of extravaganza, many stories went unnoticed; stories that showed weddings are only about love and the desire to enjoy the moments with the close ones not cheques of grand amount or luxurious arrangements.

Rizwan Pehelwan, a man from Karachi,Pakistan arranged a ‘big fat wedding’ in just 20,000 Pakistani rupees. Having the terrace as venue, Rizwan bought the chicken and masaley with his money while his friend lent him his cooks and another brought desserts and tables for food. Rizwan’s father decorated the terrace with fairy lights while he borrowed chairs neighborhood election committee for his guest list of 25 people. With a close knit group of close friends and family, the couple spent the whole evening in long warm conversations and enjoying the moments with each other. According to Rizwan, he wanted to have an ‘apni marzi ki shaadi’.

Now for the second instance,
VMRDA Commisioner P Basanth Kumar spent only Rs 18,000 on his son, Abhinav Manas’s marriage with Dr. Lavanya in Dayal Nagar colony of Vishakhapatnam. Inviting limited guests of about 65 families from the bride’s side and 35 families from the groom’s side, both the families equally divided the total expense of merely Rs 36,000 of conducting the wedding.
Stories like these come as a breath of fresh air when weddings in current times, are more of pomp and glamour than enjoying the moments with loved ones.
